Ms. Fraser's photograph "Untitled" is the Third Place Winner in the 2013 Will Grossman Memorial Photo Competition.
"Untitled" is about the increasing epidemic of young girls body-image issues. The girls figure behind the sheet is how those around her see her, but the shadow cast on the sheet is how she sees herself. It is a commentary on the distortion that many girls see when they look in the mirror each day that is spurred on by the media. So many young girls are exposed daily to ads, commercials, movies, etc. that try to tell them what beautiful looks like. Many have lost sight of what is truly beautiful, which is being comfortable in one's own skin.
Meredith Fraser was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. She majored in English at Meredith College and discovered her passion and talent for photography during her sophomore year. Her interest in photography blossomed during her study abroad experience in Europe that following summer. Her goal is to capture the essence of every person she encounters in one single shot.
